Norman M. Kearney
Co-Host & Producer
Norman is an undergraduate student at McMaster University studying philosophy and political science. He intends to pursue legal and graduate studies, and his academic interests include human rights, ethics, and jurisprudence. Norman was twice elected as the Speaker of the McMaster Students' Union, sits as a Director of the Health Initiatives for Youth Society of Hamilton, and is a member of the Board of Governors at McMaster University where he sits on the Finance and Human Resources Advisory committees. He is also the Treasurer of the new McMaster Marching Band, in which he plays trumpet, and enjoys the performing arts; some of his recent credits include Thyestes (Director), Cabaret (Ernst Ludwig) and Footloose (Rev. Shaw Moore).
Norman's favourite part of The Forum is the fifteen minutes before each episode when his guests sit together in the lounge outside of the studio. The unusual conversations between people with unique talents and perspectives are always surprising and intriguing. Ironic, perhaps, that his favourite part of the radio show is off the air! His second favourite part is teasing his co-host. ;)
"Bread in Egypt is called life...these people feel that they've been denied political voice; they've been denied opportunities; they've been denied even bread! And in many respects, these people have come to say 'enough is enough, we want bread with dignity, we want participation, we want an openness of the system – the dictator must go.' And they voted with their lives, and their childrens' lives"
"I said right from the very beginning that it should not have been all about the Tiger Cats. There was more to this – for the City – than just the football team. I understand the emotion and share the emotion in terms of the longevity of the team. I think in real terms that they're not an economic engine for the City of Hamilton by any stretch, but they are an emotional tie that can't be and shouldn't be denied...but it has to be a two-way street."
"I thought it was fascinating that at a time when the people of Afghanistan are actually in a situation where their local security issues are of immediate concern…there had been the time and the interest [by the Pentagon] to devote resources to figuring out what the mineral resources are in the country."
